John A. Turlik, Esq.
John Turlik passed away at home due to complications from Multiple System Atrophy (MSA) on October 1, 2026.
John was born on August 3, 1956, to the late John C. and Genevieve Turlik. The eldest of six siblings, he was born and raised in Akron, Ohio, before eventually planting roots in Philadelphia. He recently celebrated 45 years of marriage to the love of his life, Victoria, whom he first met in 7th-grade English class.
John graduated from Akron Garfield High School ('74), the University of Akron ('78), and the University of Akron School of Law ('81). He proudly served as a Public Defender, first in Akron and then in Philadelphia, for several years before moving into private practice. He retired as a partner from Segal McCambridge Singer & Mahoney in 2021.
John was an active parishioner at Old St. Joseph's Catholic Church and served two terms on the board of St. Peter's School. He was passionate about civil rights and participated in countless demonstrations and marches for a variety of social causes. He loved to travel to exotic locations with his friends and family, dine on perfectly medium-rare steaks, sip fine bourbon around 5 o'clock nightly, and make people laugh with his jokes and stories.
Above all else, though, John was the definition of a family man. Nothing made him happier than laughing and spending time with his wife, two daughters and their husbands, and four granddaughters.
John is survived by his wife, Victoria; daughters Lauren Cosgrove (William) and Courtney Buckhout (Christian); granddaughters Charlotte (6 yrs), Cecelia (5 yrs), Abigail (4 yrs), and Caroline (3 yrs); brothers Greg and Kevin; sisters Mariane, Milissa, and Janine; nieces and nephews; family and friends.
The family would like to thank John's medical teams at Jefferson, Bayada, and his hospice team at Vitas for providing such wonderful care throughout this period of his life. And a special thanks to Al for always being there for him.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John's memory to Old St. Joseph's Church in Philadelphia Old St. Joes Give or in support of the Comprehensive Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorders Palliative Care Program at Jefferson GIFT or mailed to Jefferson Office of Institutional Advancement, 1101 Market St., 22nd Floor, Philadelphia, PA 19107). Please specify that the gift should be designated to the "Comprehensive Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorders Palliative Care Program."
Relatives, friends, and business associates are invited to call on Friday, October 9, 2026, from 9 AM at Old St. Joseph's Church, 321 Willings Alley (Society Hill), for the reposing. Funeral Mass at 10 AM precisely. The interment will be private.
Funeral arrangements under the direction of the
Ronald Rex Piselli Funeral Chapels.
